WOOSTER- William P. Blanchard, 97, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 surrounded by family at Brookdale Assisted Living, where he was a resident.
He was born Jan. 15, 1927 in Loudonville at the Ullman Farmstead to the late John Justin and Hulda Rebecca (Ullman) Blanchard. Upon graduating high school, he served in the US Army during World War II, where he also played trombone in the Army band. He was a farmer, an oilfield worker, and did maintenance for the Ariel Corp.
Bill was a member of the Grand Lodge F & A.M. #199 Bladensburg, and Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. He was interested in life, had many hobbies, and really enjoyed people. He was the strength of the family, and if anyone needed help they could always count on him.
He is survived by his wife, Lois (Strouse) Blanchard of Wooster, with whom he celebrated 75 years of marriage last Fall, having married her Oct. 23, 1948. Together they had three children, Ken (Cynthia) Blanchard of Apple Creek, Carol Blanchard of Deep River, CT, and Becky (Mike) McAuley of Holiday, FL; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bob (Shirley) Blanchard, and John (Cathy) Blanchard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy; and a nephew, Willie Blanchard.
Private family funeral services will take place at Union Grove Church of Christ, with Pastor Randy Mumaw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
